WHAT DO I DO AS AN OVERSEAS NANNY OR AUPAIR?

Au-Pairs on a cultural and language exchange program become a special member of the household. The “host family” invites the Au-Pair to come and live in their house as an extended member of the family, to learn their culture and language.  In exchange you help the family with child minding and light housekeeping duties.  Of course you will also receive an allowance and benefits so in your free time you can socialise and explore the country.

PLACEMENT PERIODS

The busy placement times are September and January however we can usually place you all year round. The most common placement is for a 10 or 12 months period with most countries having and absolute minimum of 6 months commitment. The only exceptions are 4 months summer pair placements in Italy and France (European Summer starting from around May to August).

WHAT DO I EARN?

This differs from country to country and is based on the cost of living, the hours worked and the type of program. In many countries the hours and minimum pay are regulated. The Au Pair allowance is between €75 (Euro) and €120 a week on the continent and around £80 -100 (Pounds) a week for the UK. (Experienced Nannies, Teachers and Nurses earn significantly more, depending on experience)  Many families will also offer financial help with the cost of Language classes, public transport and phone allowances. Germany and the Netherlands will also offer generous flight allowances.

SOME MIN REQUIREMENTS (DEPENDING ON COUNTRY)

• Between 18 and 29 years old depending on program and country.
• 150 hours of childcare experience, e.g. combination of work experience at day care centres, babysitting or youth club work.
• No smoking
• Driver’s licence an advantage
• No criminal record
• Emotionally stable background
